To get started, you'll need a link to the IIIF source, which varies from website to website.
Some libraries make it easy by providing a IIIF link, allowing you to seamlessly integrate their manuscripts into Manu. However, some libraries, like the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, do not use IIIF on their websites, so embedding their manuscripts in Manu isn't possible at the moment. Below, you'll find a helpful guide on where to look for IIIF manuscript links on the most common websites. This should make your search a bit easier and help you get started with your projects!

On Manuscriptorium.cz, accessing the IIIF Manifest is a breeze because it’s typically included in the detailed description of the manuscript. Simply search for the manuscript using the shelfmark or other criteria, click on it (1), and then scroll down a bit in the details to find the IIIF manifest link (2). It's a straightforward process that makes it easy to get started with your manuscript!

Adding manuscripts from the Bodleian Library is a relatively straightforward process. Once you've found the digital facsimile of your chosen manuscript, open it up. In the upper left corner, just below the manuscript's shelfmark, you'll see the [IIIF and other viewers] button (1). Click on it, then right-click on the [View IIIF Manifest] button (2) and select Copy link address from your browser’s context menu.
If you accidentally left-click the [View IIIF Manifest] button, don't worry! Simply copy the address from your browser's address bar, and you're all set. It's a simple and user-friendly way to access the manuscript you need!

This simple step will help you get started with your annotations in no time!
If you accidentally left-click the [IIIF Manifest] button, don't worry! Simply copy the address from your browser's address bar, and you're all set. It's a simple and user-friendly way to access the manuscript you need!
If you have your own pictures of a manuscript or if a library doesn't provide a IIIF link, unfortunately, there's currently no way to add them to Manu. However, we're excited to share that in the future, there will be an open-source tool that will allow you to serve your own images to Manu. You'll need your own server, which might be a bit costly, but storing IIIF images of manuscripts requires a lot of space—something Manu doesn't have available just yet.
If you're not sure whether your library provides a IIIF link, feel free to email me link to your manuscript at [email protected]. I'll be happy to check it out for you and, if applicable, add the information to this manual.
Once you have the link, simply head over to the dashboard and click on the [Add IIIF Manuscript] button (1).
